Medicines

Medicinal products have properties for treating or preventing diseases. However, for the categories of sleeping pills, painkillers or tranquilisers, a prolonged or inappropriate use may lead to dependence and be associated with scenarios of risk for mental and physical health (for example falls, physical disorders, circulatory disorders, problems of concentration, etc.). These risks are enhanced by the simultaneous consumption of alcohol.

Indicators for medicinal products are defined in the national strategy "Addiction". They describe the situation in Switzerland in regard to consumption, persons under treatment and the impact on society.

The data are presented in interactive graphical form with links to the sources.
