NCD in general

Non-communicable diseases affect almost one in every three persons in Switzerland and represent a very heavy burden on society. They mainly comprise cancers, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases and musculoskeletal diseases. Mental illnesses also represent a significant challenge for society. Lifestyle and the environment are non-negligible factors in the appearance of these diseases. Prevention thus plays a very important role to delay or prevent their occurrence.

These indicators are defined in the national strategy "Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases". They describe the principal diseases in regard to prevalence, impact on health and on society.

The data are presented in interactive graphical form with links to the sources.
